The five prohibited "afflictions" or acts of self-denial on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, are: fasting (no eating or drinking), no wearing of leather shoes, no bathing or washing for pleasure, no anointing the body with oils or lotions, and no conjugal relations.
